Faith is personal.
So is the music.
The night I became a Christian, I was driving home, in tears, and I prayed, “Jesus, we’re going to do this properly, or not at all.” It was a beautiful night, and I was 19 years old.
I didn’t really know what I was asking for. But I meant every word.
This isn’t the story of who I was before that night, though that’s a story worth telling on its own. This is the story of the journey I’ve had with Jesus ever since, and of what He taught me during my years of isolation overseas, far from everything I’d ever known as normal. It’s about how my relationship with Him deepened in ways I could never have imagined, and how, without TV, movies, the internet, or family and friends close by, I finally had the time to play guitar, to sing, and to simply be still, and know...
In the 1990s, I spent time in Youth With A Mission. It was a real step of faith, and I began to discover that His Word never returns void. He showed me things I’m honestly still learning to understand. Then, in January 2001, I left Australia with a backpack and a guitar. For the best part of twenty years, I lived, worked, and performed on many stages in mainland China, with a few in Thailand and the UK along the way.
Somewhere on that road, through valleys deeper and darker than I knew existed, I came to see that Jesus had been walking beside me the whole way.
For a long time, I’ve kept these stories and songs hidden under a bowl. But I really believe He’s been nudging me to pick up the guitar, open my mouth, and simply... go!
So I come with a guitar, a few songs, and some stories from the road. If they help even one person press in closer to Jesus, that’s worth more than I could ever hope for. I’m grateful you’re here, and I pray something in them speaks to you.
